I recently have become a fan of grapefruit, but this was my first time working with a "yellow"one (some people call it white, but not me) as I usually enjoy "red". This was an easy and new way for me to prepare a grapefruit. It's actually more popular than you think, even thought is sounds funny but I broiled a grapefruit the other morning. I have seen it all over food blogs and recipe books and when I told my mom & dad what I was making they mentioned my Grandma Kay and Grandma Anne both use to make grapefruit the same way.
I really enjoyed this breakfast, although it was more tart than i expected, I think next time I will use a red grapefruit which is generally sweeter.
There are many great health benefits to grapefruit both the red and yellow. The fruit carries different illness preventatives as well as playing a role in weight loss, for more Click here.
There are no set rules on how to prepare it, you just need to trust your own judgment and add more brown sugar when needed! Yummy!
What you need:
- One yellow or red Grapefruit
- A couple teaspoons of brown Sugar
Directions: Turn oven on broil, making sure the rack is as close to the top coils as possible. Cut the grapefruit in half and section. Place both halves on a aluminum lined baking sheet and cover the fruit with the brown sugar more or less to your liking. Pop in the oven for 5-7 min. It really is that easy! Make sure to keep an eye on your grapefruit as your oven may cook the grapefruit slower or faster.
And now for the eating: As soon as you take it out make sure to let it cool a bit, but you do want to consume while warm. Place the fruit in a bowl, and eat sections until all that is left is the rind. Then this is the best part. Squeeze the remaining brown sugary juice into the bowl and drink it, trust me you have to make sure to do this step.
There are some medicines that DO NOT mix well with grapefruit. You can have a bad reaction and worse case scenario this reaction can be deadly. For more information click here .
